Owner: Jack Hulme

Description: Born in 1906 in Fryston Village, Jack Hulme became the village barber after an accident at Fryston colliery. For over 60 years he took tens of thousand of photographs of everyday life around him. Jack's photos were "discovered" a few years before his death in 1990, he said of his art "I loved taking photos. That was my hobby. I didn't gamble, smoke or drink, or any of these habits you spend your money on, but the camera was my best friend....I'll be taking photos to the day I die. It's been my great love." Jack's work is internationally recognised and exhibited. The photographs in this collection were taken in the late 1940's to early 1950's. The photos here are a flavour of his rugby pictures. They are repeated in other parts of the memory box with additional photographs he took of and during games. NONE OF THESE PHOTOGRAPHS HAVE EVER BEEN PUBLISHED BEFORE AND WE THANK JACK'S GRANDSON TREVOR MOORBY FOR HIS KIND PERMISSION IN ALLOWING THEIR UNIQUE EXHIBITION.
