With a lot of community backing from supporters, the Club, other local organisations, Castleford Heritage Trust, Castleford Museum, local activists and Councillors the Heritage Project began in September 2015. Overseen by Tigers Trust, One to One Development Trust were brought on board to work with volunteers to create a 'virtual museum'. A core group of volunteers were recruited to help shape the project and bring their expertise to the project.
The Volunteer Group have been instrumental to the success of the project. A good mix of ages and genders, the group represents the 'family feel' and passionate dedication of fans from the Club. Some members have developed their own personal collections and archives of memorabilia, these have been kindly contributed to the project. The group have taken on a wide range of tasks including research, curation of exhibitions, promotion of the project, audio and video interviews, scanning, entering information into the data base and contributing to the look, design and the overall feel of the project. As the project has developed, the group has developed with it.
A photography competition was launched to extend the reach of the project and increase the themes within the Museum. In bitterly cold weather on Boxing Day, volunteers promoted the project to fans at a home game. Some great entries were submitted and winners chosen in six categories. Players Michael Shenton and Grant Millington helped judge the photograph competition and the Club for awarded prizes to the winners.
On 11th July 2017, the Heritage Project was given a 'private view' to VIP guests, with the public launch on 12th July 2017.
We know there is masses of material out there that forms part of the rich heritage of the Club, processing it and recording it to a high quality takes a lot of time and effort. If you would like to get involved with the Heritage Group please contact us on firstname.lastname@example.org
If you have any memorabilia, photos, films, documents that you think maybe a good addition to the Memory Box then please search the database to see if it’s already there. If it’s not there then get in touch with as much information as you can about the item, where it’s from, a date and its link to you.
Please note we may not be able to get back to you immediately, but will do our best to answer any queries.
